The head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers, Ty Lue, has said that the current fires in Southern California have affected the team’s workers and athletes, including Kawhi Leonard. The fires which began on January 7, 2025 burnt the Los Angeles County, forced nearly 180,000 residents to leave their homes and claimed at least twenty-four lives by 13 January.

Severity of the Fires

By best estimate and as can be deciphered, the severity of the Palisades Fire was the highest, as it had burnt up to about 24,000 acres of land, and was only partly controlled. The Santa Ana wind at its worst with speeds going up to one hundred miles per hour has contributed to worsening the situation.

Furthermore, dryness and low humidity have hampered the battle against fires and explosions also. According to new information it was found out that at least 13,413 buildings including homes, school, offices and other structures were either burnt down or affected as the fires continue to progress.

Fire responders have put out specific evacuation notices in some districts, such as Hollywood Hills and a few neighborhoods of Pasadena. We also see that Kawhi Leonard’s family was devastated by the fires; they had to leave their home due to the nearness of the threat. He has not played in the games recently due to the intention of helping his family during this testing period.
