Raelene Castle, the former CEO of Rugby Australia, has called for National Rugby League (NRL) standout Nathan Cleary to consider a shock switch to rugby union. Cleary, who has been instrumental in the Penrith Panthers’ recent dominance in the NRL, is widely considered one of the top halfbacks in the game.
Castle, known for bringing major talents like Sonny Bill Williams and Israel Folau into rugby union during her time with Rugby Australia, believes Cleary could be a game-changer for the Wallabies. She highlighted Cleary’s strong game management, kicking abilities, and leadership as qualities that could make him a star in rugby union, filling a key role for the struggling Australian rugby team.
Castle suggested that Rugby Australia should offer Cleary an attractive deal to lure him away from the NRL. While Cleary is currently under contract with the Penrith Panthers, Castle is confident that the right offer could persuade him to take on the challenge of a new sport.
