With NHL expansion rumors gaining traction, speculation is growing over how new teams could reshape the league. For the Chicago Blackhawks, expansion wouldn’t just mean more competition—it could revive old rivalries that have faded over time.
As one of the NHL’s Original Six franchises, the Blackhawks have had intense battles with several teams, but some of their fiercest rivalries have lost steam due to realignments and team relocations. A league expansion could shift teams around, potentially bringing back some of those heated matchups.
One possibility that has sparked discussion is the return of the Quebec Nordiques. If Quebec City is awarded a franchise, the resulting realignment could increase Chicago’s encounters with past rivals. Another rumored expansion site is Houston, which could establish a new Texas-based rivalry for the Blackhawks, particularly given their history with the Dallas Stars, who were formerly the Minnesota North Stars.
