Chris Sutton predicts who’ll win between Manchester United and Liverpool

On Sunday, Manchester United and Liverpool will square off in a major Premier League match at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils will play Arne Slot’s Reds in one of football’s biggest rivalries in hopes of winning big points and first-ever bragging rights.

Man United will be anxious to bounce back and prove a point after they slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Brighton last weekend.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will want to maintain momentum after winning both of their opening Premier League games by two goals to nil.

Chris Sutton, BBC Sport’s resident prediction pundit, has given his thoughts on how Man United and Liverpool will fare in Sunday’s 4pm kick-off.

Chris Sutton backs Liverpool to beat Man United – but there’s a caveat

Sutton reckons Liverpool will run out 2-1 winners at Old Trafford, but he acknowledges he has often struggled to predict Man United’s results.

“Manchester United got the better of Liverpool on a couple of occasions last year,” he wrote on BBC Sport.

“They won in the FA Cup and you’re sort of scratching your head about how they won that particular one.

“Liverpool under Arne Slot are not so sort of heavy metal.

“Whatever I predict about Manchester United I get them wrong, I’m just resigned to the fact I cannot predict a Manchester United result.

“I’m going to say Liverpool to beat them.”

Paul Merson and Troy Deeney share Man United v Liverpool predictions

Paul Merson, writing on Sportskeeda, believes Man United and Liverpool will share the spoils in a high-scoring encounter.

“Despite Liverpool’s red-hot form, I’m backing this clash to end in a 2-2 draw,” he said.

“There’s definitely goals in this one and I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds on Sunday!”

Meanwhile, Deeney has strongly backed Liverpool to run out 3-1 winners over the Red Devils.

“I think Liverpool will absolutely do a job on them,” he said.

“They have got so much pace, but Man U have looked more structurally sound.”
