Bayern Munich are reportedly “very keen” on securing the signature of Liverpool’s world-class goalkeeper, Alisson Becker. With the German champions looking to strengthen their squad, the Brazilian shot-stopper has emerged as a prime target for the Bundesliga giants as they look to bolster their goalkeeping options ahead of next season.
Bayern Munich’s goalkeeping situation has been under intense scrutiny following Manuel Neuer’s struggles with injuries over the past year. Neuer, a club legend and one of the best goalkeepers of his generation, has battled to regain full fitness since suffering a severe leg injury in late 2022. Although Neuer has returned to training, questions remain about his long-term fitness and ability to perform at the highest level consistently.
Bayern signed Swiss international Yann Sommer in January 2023 to cover for Neuer’s absence, but Sommer’s future at the club has been uncertain following the captain’s return. Bayern are reportedly looking for a long-term successor to Neuer and see Alisson as the ideal candidate to take over the reins at the Allianz Arena.
Alisson Becker, widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, has been a cornerstone of Liverpool’s success since joining from AS Roma in 2018. His shot-stopping ability, distribution, and composure under pressure have helped transform Liverpool’s defense, guiding the club to numerous trophies, including the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.
The 31-year-old Brazilian has been vital to Jurgen Klopp’s system, combining solid defensive instincts with the ability to start attacks from the back. With over 230 appearances for the Reds, Alisson has become one of the club’s most influential players, often delivering crucial performances in high-pressure moments.
However, despite his importance to Liverpool, Bayern Munich’s interest in Alisson is believed to be serious, with the German club prepared to test Liverpool’s resolve with a substantial offer. Reports suggest that Bayern are looking to make a major investment in the goalkeeper position, viewing Alisson as the perfect fit for their ambitions to remain competitive domestically and in Europe.
While Bayern’s interest is genuine, prising Alisson away from Liverpool won’t be easy. The Brazilian is under contract at Anfield until 2027, having signed a long-term extension in 2021, and remains a key figure in Klopp’s plans as the Reds look to challenge for silverware this season and beyond.
Liverpool would likely demand a hefty fee to even consider parting ways with Alisson, who cost the club a then-world record for a goalkeeper when they signed him for £66.8 million. Given his performances and importance to the team, any deal would need to meet a high valuation.
Jurgen Klopp, who has worked with Alisson to rebuild Liverpool’s squad after a transitional 2022/23 season, is unlikely to want to lose his No. 1 goalkeeper at a time when the team is undergoing a renewed push for the Premier League title. Replacing a player of Alisson’s quality and experience would be a difficult task, and Liverpool would need assurances about finding a suitable replacement before even contemplating a sale.
From Alisson’s perspective, a move to Bayern Munich would offer a fresh challenge and the chance to compete in another top European league. Bayern are perennial contenders for the Bundesliga title and regularly challenge for the UEFA Champions League, which could appeal to the ambitious Brazilian.
However, Alisson has frequently expressed his happiness at Liverpool and his close connection with the club, its fans, and Klopp. Moving to Bayern would represent a significant shift in his career, but it remains unclear whether the 31-year-old would be open to leaving Merseyside at this stage.
