“It’s Like an Ice Rink!”. Carlos Alcaraz Criticizes Paris Masters Court for ‘Slippery’ and Hazardous Conditions

Carlos Alcaraz, a top Spanish tennis player, has expressed strong criticism of the court conditions at the Paris Masters, comparing the surface to an “ice rink” and calling it “dangerous.” After struggling to gain traction on the fast court, Alcaraz shared concerns about how the slippery surface impacts player stability, making it harder to control movements and increasing the risk of injury.

Held at the Accor Arena, the Paris Masters has seen numerous players encountering difficulties with the faster-than-usual surface, which many say is challenging to adapt to. For Alcaraz, known for his quick movements and energetic style, the slick conditions have caused frequent slips, hindering his ability to play at full capacity.

Alcaraz’s concerns echo a common issue on the ATP tour, where players have voiced safety concerns over overly slick court surfaces. Though fast courts are a part of tennis, players warn that excessively slippery conditions can lead to injuries. Alcaraz’s comments emphasize the need for safer playing environments.

Tournament officials at the Paris Masters have yet to respond to Alcaraz’s remarks, but his statements may prompt further discussion on court preparation. As player safety remains a top priority, organizers may need to reassess the standards for court conditions, especially on faster surfaces.
