In a move that’s caught many by surprise, Bears general manager Ryan Poles revealed the unexpected reason behind the team’s decision not to trade up for Boise State star running back Ashton Jeanty in the draft.
“Jeanty’s a great talent explosive and tough,” Poles said. “But we had a few internal red flags that made us think twice about moving up to get him.”
While Poles kept the specifics under wraps, insiders suggest the hesitation stemmed from concerns about Jeanty’s fit in the current offense and his long-term durability. Despite high expectations and several draft projections linking him to Chicago, the Bears ultimately stayed put.
The decision has stirred debate among fans, especially after Poles confirmed the front office had seriously considered targeting Jeanty.
“You have to weigh the cost of moving up with the value you’re getting,” Poles explained. “In the end, we didn’t think it was the right move.”
Time will tell if the Bears made the right call, but Poles’ candid explanation adds a surprising twist to their draft story and raises questions about what they saw that others didn’t.
