Miami football’s 4 top targets in 2024-25 transfer portal

The Miami Hurricanes football program is actively targeting key players in the 2024-25 transfer portal to strengthen their roster. With the departure of several players, including quarterback Cam Ward, Miami is looking to build on their 10-2 season and aim for ACC contention.

1. Quarterback Needs:

Cam Ward’s exit leaves a significant void at quarterback. Potential targets include Maalik Murphy, who excelled at Duke, throwing for nearly 3,000 yards and 26 touchdowns, and John Mateer of Washington State, a dual-threat quarterback who impressed with his scoring ability both through the air and on the ground. Miami seeks an experienced playmaker to lead the offense in a competitive conference.

2. Defensive Back Reinforcements:

Struggles in the secondary were a notable issue for Miami last season. Freshman standouts O.J. Frederique and Zaquan Patterson showed promise, but the team lacks depth. Adding experienced players, particularly at safety and cornerback, will be critical to stabilizing the defense.

3. Defensive Line and Other Areas:

Miami is also eyeing reinforcements on the defensive line, having already added Simeon Barrow in the portal. Jaden Mangham, a standout safety from Michigan State, is another key target to bolster the defense.

These moves align with head coach Mario Cristobal’s strategy of leveraging the transfer portal to enhance team performance, as he continues to reshape Miami into a competitive force in college football.
