Snow Squall and Fog Alerts for Southern Ontario

Environment Canada has issued alerts for snow squalls and fog across parts of southern Ontario, cautioning residents about hazardous weather. These conditions are expected to impact visibility and road safety as cold air interacts with warmer surfaces in the region.

Snow Squall Warning

Regions near the Great Lakes, including those around Lake Huron, Georgian Bay, and Lake Ontario, are under a snow squall watch. Intense snow bands, combined with strong winds, may create whiteout conditions and heavy snow accumulation in a short time. Drivers are warned to remain alert as these squalls can appear suddenly, causing dangerous conditions on highways and open roads.

Fog Advisory

Dense fog is another concern in southern Ontario, particularly in urban and low-lying areas. Visibility may drop to near zero, creating challenges for commuters. Environment Canada advises drivers to use low-beam headlights, drive slowly, and be prepared for abrupt changes in visibility.

Precautionary Measures

Regularly monitor weather reports for updates.

Avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions.

Equip your vehicle with an emergency kit, including warm gear and essential supplies.

Southern Ontario residents are encouraged to exercise caution during these rapidly changing weather patterns, typical of the region’s early winter months.
