Ravens vs Steelers in the trade deadline arms race

The 2024 NFL trade deadline showcased significant maneuvers that shifted team strengths, notably between the Ravens and Steelers. The Baltimore Ravens made a strategic acquisition by trading for wide receiver Diontae Johnson from the Panthers, bolstering an already potent offense. This move aimed to solidify their playoff push by adding a reliable, experienced receiver to complement star quarterback Lamar Jackson.

The Pittsburgh Steelers, meanwhile, also made moves to reinforce their lineup, trading for wide receiver Jakobi Meyers from the Raiders and securing pass-rush help with edge rusher Preston Smith from the Packers. These trades were designed to enhance their offensive depth and defensive capabilities as they aimed for postseason contention.

Comparatively, the Ravens’ addition of Johnson stands out due to its alignment with their top-tier offensive strategy, potentially giving them an edge over the Steelers’ broader yet less headline-grabbing acquisitions. While both teams strengthened ahead of the deadline, Baltimore’s singular focus on fortifying its high-performing offense could be seen as a more decisive step in the competitive arms race
